April 22, 2024Spring Treatment Plan for Cacti and Succulents Against Pests.
Plan for spring treatment of plants, which we will discuss in more detail during our meeting:
Assessment of plant condition:
Check the condition of all cacti and succulents, paying attention to the presence of damage, diseases, and pests.
Plant preparation:
Clean the plants from dust and dirt, carefully remove dried or damaged parts. Treat cuts with a fungicide.
Repot the plants if necessary, refresh the soil.
Preventive treatment:
Use fungicides to protect against fungal diseases such as mold and rot. The choice of product depends on the damage to the plants; you can read the descriptions at the link and choose one suitable for your situation: https://agropal-bg.com/products/fungicides/
Apply insecticides to prevent attacks from insects such as aphids, mealybugs, and thrips. We alternate between insecticides used in our greenhouses to avoid pests adapting. There is a good scheme with detailed instructions for potatoes online, suitable for cacti as well, except the treatment frequency in our case is twice a season (preventive) and between these two treatments (spring and autumn) if pests are noticed: Link
Use acaricides to protect against mites that can attack the roots and leaves of plants. The wind carries mites through the air, and they can appear on your plants at any time.
Selection of means:
Select treatment products, considering the types of plants and potential threats to them.
Visit professionals or specialists for consultations on the choice of products and their correct application.
Application of funds:
Follow the instructions for applying the selected products.
Treat the plants evenly, paying special attention to hidden areas and hard-to-reach places.
Supporting measures:
Monitor the condition of the plants after treatment, detect and remove any new signs of diseases or pests.
Maintain optimal conditions for the growth and development of cacti and succulents, including proper watering, lighting, and temperature.
Re-treatment:
If necessary, repeat the treatment after a certain period indicated on the packaging of the selected products. Usually, this is once a week.
Records and tracking:
Keep records and document the products used and the results of the treatment with photographs.
Monitor the effectiveness of the chosen measures and adjust the plan if necessary.
Even if your collection looks completely healthy, preventive treatment, especially if you regularly add new plants to your collection, is mandatory. Quarantine for all new acquisitions is also important.
